I Love LA

I know I've said it before, but I just love the West Coast. I'm lucky that I get to go often. This was a quick business/pleasure trip, but I jammed as much as possible into my time there.

First highlight, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

LACMA had a really fun installation outside called "HappyHappy," an artwork by Choi Jeong-Hwa. Here's a review on Culture Monster. There is some controversy however about how all this plastic will be recycled after the exhibit. 

Inside, I got vertigo walking through the enormous Richard Serra sculptures with their magnificent patinas, each one different. I stood in awe in front of a gigantic Motherwell. 

But, we saved the best for last. The Pompeii exhibit was breathtaking.... so many artifacts preserved in their entirety  after thousands of years. I have been to Italy and many of the statues have been broken. Most of the pieces in this exhibit were perfect and the thought of ornamental glass objects and goblets surviving blows me away.
